This course will prepare students for Extemporaneous Debate Competition at Nationals, and is open to students nation-wide via Zoom. Please note that the course time is set in Pacific Time. To be eligible to participate in this course, students must be:

  • High school students attending the national tournament, qualified in a main stage event and planning to sign up for Extemp Debate as a supplemental event.

or

  • Attending the tournament as part of the supplemental event

or

  • Coaches may enroll two students per team who did not qualify in a main stage event

Course Goals:

Understanding how Extemp Debate works and the commonalities and differences with other formats.  It is unique in some ways and understanding these aspects will help lead to greater success and enjoyment.

Each student who participates in our course will:

  • Have at least one critiqued practice round

  • Learn strategies on how to prepare both prior to, and at the meet

  • Learn what to expect at the tournament and how it runs

Breaks will be provided.  We would encourage students to speak with any fellow team members or other competitors who they know who have participated in the tournament in the past to understand the value of live prep classes such as this.
